An initiative to promote UN’s mission to improve the
lives of millions through animation & live action films

Mumbai, July 31, 2013: Maya
Academy of Advanced Cinematics (MAAC), a leader in 3D Animation and VFX
training, in the third year of its association with the United Nations
Information Centre for India and Bhutan (UNIC), announced the ‘call for
entries’ for India’s most coveted animation awards ‘24 FPS
International Animation Awards 2013’. The theme selected for this
year’s awards, ‘MY World 2015’ is in support of the UN’s mission to improve the
lives of millions through animation films. To address UN theme in the most
effective manner and promote well on global platforms ‘Digital Film Making’ has
been introduced in the ‘Open’ category for external participants for 2013
Awards.
Interested candidates can create
films based on any of the sixteen topics such as better job opportunities, good
education, phone and internet access, honest and responsive government, access
to clean water and sanitation, better healthcare, gender equality, etc and
support the social cause. For more details on the theme, please visit: http://www.myworld2015.org/
‘MY World’, is a global
survey led by the UN and its partners aimed at citizens of all ages, genders
and backgrounds and particularly world’s poorest and marginalized communities
to vote for the most critical issues which could be considered in the next
development framework for the world. Propagating this campaign and urging
people to voice their opinions is the prime objective of MAAC - UNIC. 24FPS
provides an opportunity to young animation enthusiasts to showcase their
creativity and get acclaimed at international level. In the past, as many as 80
animation films based on themes such as improving maternal health, promoting
gender equality and empowerment, poverty, corruption, family planning and many
more were produced by MAAC and UNIC to promote the Millennium Development
Goals.
Speaking at the event Mrs.
Kiran Mehra-Kerpelman, Director, UN Information Centre for India and Bhutan
said, “People want to see further progress on education, health, water and
sanitation. They want their leaders to take action to create the conditions for
a more equitable and safer world. This is the challenge before us, and the
challenge that we're placing before our young people. We are seeking fresh
ideas, and also quite simply, creative reminders of the task at hand that are
serious yet entertaining. I think that animation is an excellent tool to
highlight issues of common concern, in a fun and engaging manner. Initiatives
like these bring UNIC closer to its vocation and mandate: making the UN-India
Connect possible”.
“Strengthening our partnership
with UNIC, we hope to contribute enormously towards the social cause through 24
FPS and awaken the masses to shoulder the responsibility to bring about a
positive change in the society. This year we are optimistic of receiving an
exceeding number of applications from countries such as Singapore, USA, France,
China, etc. Globally, animation & VFX industry has grown manifold over the
years. Indian animation industry too, has fuelled its operations and is
expected to flourish in the near future. Events like 24 FPS provide an
opportunity to candidates to compete globally and bring out their artistic
capabilities”, said Mr. Ninad Karpe, CEO & MD Aptech Ltd.
24 FPS films have received global
recognition at various national and international film festivals as appended.
